In 2002, when a young graduate student asked seniors at St. Barnabas Senior Services in Los Angeles if they would like to learn to use computers, The prevailing idea about adult learning is that adults will learn what is immediately relevant to them and/or helps them solve problems.z |
| The Borchardt Cyber Cafe provides high-speed Internet access for seniors, including email and webcams that allow them to see and talk to people around the world. Seniors can schedule one-on-one instruction or use the computer on personal time, with staff and volunteers to assist as needed. Computers are programmed for numerous languages to suit the senior's preferences. |
| Seniors not using computers are welcome to spend time enjoying company, coffee and pastries. |
