Monday through Friday, St. Barnabas serves 350 meals a day to seniors at six congregate meal sites in downtown Los Angeles. In addition to traditional American style meals, St. Barnabas provides meals at restaurants serving traditional Chinese and Korean cuisine. Seniors may eat at any of these congregate meal sites as well as others across the city that are funded under The Older Americans Act. In addition to a nutritious, hot lunch, seniors have the opportunity to socialize with each other at our popular sites. Special occasions, such as holidays, Chinese New Year, and birthdays are celebrated with appropriate decorations, entertainment and food. HOME DELIVERED MEALS (MEALS ON WHEELS)Seniors too frail to prepare their own food or shop can arrange for home-delivered meals through St. Barnabas. St. Barnabas delivers 300 meals a day to the homes of frail and/or mobility impaired seniors who otherwise might not get proper nutrition. The people who deliver the meals to home bound seniors often are their only social contacts, and become reassuring friends who keep the seniors connected to the world outside. |
