KTLA News: Surge In Older Adults Facing Homelessness

SBSS and LAAAC’s Director of Government Relations & Advocacy, Brandi Orton, was featured on KTLA to discuss recent reports on the 22% increase of older adults who are homeless.

Thank you to KTLA Weekend Morning News for helping us spread awareness and discuss the homelessness crisis among the older adult population we serve.

Living on the Edge: A Crisis in Senior Housing

St. Barnabas Senior Services showed the senior voice of homelessness at the Living on the Edge: A Crisis in Senior Housing event.

The event brought housing advocates and older adults to discuss ways to end homelessness and share their personal stories of what it’s like to be a homeless older adult. Research shows that 64% of seniors in LA County are spending more than 30% of their income on rent, causing them to be ‘rent burdened’ which is a predictor of potential homelessness.

Homelessness impacts many clients at SBSS. Seven out of ten clients seen by case managers at SBSS Mid-City have a housing related issue and six to ten clients per month seen at SBSS Mid-City case management are facing homelessness in the next year.
