Give65 Campaign, July 10 - July 12

This year, SBSS is proud to partner with the Home Instead Senior Care Foundation and the GIVE65 Event to raise funds for our Technology Education Programs. This 65-hour crowdfunding event will take place online from July 10th to July 12th – but you can pre-schedule your donations right now!

Your donation will help low-income older adults bridge the digital divide so they can access resources online and connect with friends and family. We want to teach more classes in the community so more older adults can have the access and skills needed to use technology as a means to thrive.

I used computers at work but stopped using them after I retired 7 years ago. I had forgotten how to use it. After taking the class I discovered how to go online to search for health information. I also learned how to search for bus routes online, which has helped me to plan my trips. I now feel more comfortable using the internet to search for things that interest me.”

Univision News With Attorney General Becerra

This past May, Univision News covered SBSS' press conference with Attorney General Xavier Becerra in an effort to spread the word about the new Medicare card. Becerra spoke about the safety behind these new Medicare cards, which aim to protect identity and eliminate identity theft.

Thank you so much to Univision News for helping us reach the public with this important message!

SBSS Staying Cool for the Summer

St. Barnabas Senior Services (SBSS), would like to thank City Councilmember Gil Cedillo and the City of Los Angeles for generously granting us with the funding greatly needed for our HVAC repairs. SBSS Mid-City has been serving low-income older adults for more than 100 years. During those notorious California summers accompanied by heat waves reaching over 90 degrees, we provided our participants with a safe place to stay cool. Thank you to the City and to Councilmember Gil Cedillo for helping us keep the community safe this summer!

Our programs are a lifeline for older adults who live in impoverished communities and are often isolated.  With this generous award, we are able to continue providing the community with the resources they need to Live Well, Feel Well and Age Well.

PBS NewsHour with Bonnie Boswell

On Sunday, January 24th, PBS NewsHour Weekend aired a segment on SBSS to shed light on the many programs and services offered by us as well as to touch on the ongoing unaffordable housing crisis. Bonnie Boswell reports on why and how older adults have come under extreme pressure to find reliable and sustainable housing.
